Getting Started With Brikk: The Best WordPress Rental Theme

best theme wordpress

Creating a rental or booking website seems intimidating  choosing a theme, creating listings, setting up payment, cross-browser/mobile compatibility, etc. In most non-dedicated WordPress themes you have to hack together a dozen plugins just to make a simple booking form work.

Brikk is a WordPress rental theme built mainly for listing products or services, so you can focus on growing your business without wasting time debugging code.

Lets learn everything you need to know about getting started with Brikk, what it is, how its features work, who it’s for, and step-by-step instructions for setup using the official documentation from Brikk.

What Is Brikk?

Brikk WordPress Listing Theme in a nutshell

Brikk is a high-end WordPress directory and listing theme designed from the ground up for rental websites, booking platforms and marketplaces. Created by ThemeForest Elite Author Utillz, Brikk is currently at version 3.1.0. Built with WooCommerce and Elementor, Brikk gives you unlimited flexibility of the world’s most popular eCommerce plugin and page builder, all in one theme.

Instead of settling for a basic multipurpose theme, Brikk is made specifically with directory websites in mind. Features like bookings, user account dashboards, location based search, monetisation features are built into the core of the theme. You won’t have to buy extra plugins to create a complete rental site.

What types of websites can you build with Brikk WordPress Theme?

Rentals. Apartments. Hotels. Classes. Events. Flights. Equipment. Tours. You can use Brikk to power websites that allow users to list any of these things, and then book or reserve them. Brikk works with any type of listing-based businesses that require a booking system.

Here are some examples of Brikk in action:

  • Vacation rental websites (like Airbnb)
  • Car rental sites
  • Tour and activity booking websites
  • Restaurant reservation websites
  • Hourly appointment booking websites
  • Event listings with tickets
  • Classified ads sites
  • Job listings websites

Do you offer services that allow people to list items or offerings then book or reserve them? Brikk was designed for you.

Built-in Features Every Brikk Site Needs

Three booking types

One of Brikk’s most powerful features is its built-in booking system. The Brikk theme documentation states there are three supported booking action types : daily bookings, hourly bookings, and appointments. Each option uses the same booking system but allows you to toggle settings to match your needs. A daily booking suits vacation rentals. Hourly bookings work best for hourly services. Appointments are for booking fixed time slots. You can configure this setting on a per listing type basis, allowing you to offer multiple booking types on the same website.

Search by location with maps

With Brikk, visitors can search for listings using a map. The map uses bounding parameters, not just a radius, so users can completely customize their search area. Any listings within the selected bounds will appear in search results. Nearby listings are also intelligently suggested based on location data entered. As users interact with the map, search results are updated live thanks to Ajax integrations.

Front-end user dashboard

Each user that registers on a Brikk website is given access to a front-end dashboard. From there, they can manage their listings, view past bookings and earnings, send messages to administrators or other users, request withdrawals through PayPal or direct bank deposit, and manage their calendar availability. Half of the dashboard displays are dedicated to customers and the other half is for business owners. Which you see is based on the nature of your login. This provides a customized experience for visitors and hosts alike.

Monetise your listings in multiple ways

Through settings found in Brikk, there are many options for charging users and earning revenue. You can charge for promoted placements, collect fees for new submissions, sell banner advertising space, take a commission on each booking made, or require users to buy reservations directly. These tools are built into Brikk; you won’t have to purchase additional addons or have custom features implemented like you often do with other rental themes.

Inline notifications and webhook support

Notifications in Brikk can be received as site messages, emails, and webhooks. Users and administrators are notified whenever a certain triggering event takes place e.g.new booking request/receipt, new message, listing expiry warning, payout notification etc. Webhooks allow you to connect directly with Zapier. It’s easy to link your Brikk site up with third-party apps through Zapier.

Notifications are helpful for administrators, but Brikk also has a robust front-end notification system for visitors. Users are notified in real time about booking changes, messages, earnings deposits, and more.

How to Install Brikk: Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1. Purchase/download Brikk

Brikk is sold for $79 on ThemeForest. Once purchased, download Brikk from your ThemeForest account. The download includes the main theme ZIP file along with Brikk’s child theme and bundled plugins.

Step 2. Install WordPress and Brikk

Use your hosting provider’s one-click WordPress installer. After WordPress is installed, navigate to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme in WordPress. Upload the Brikk ZIP file. After activating the theme, install required plugins and activate them.

Brikk requires WooCommerce and Elementor . Both are free plugins and come bundled with Brikk.

Step 3. Import demo content

Navigate to the Brikk section in WordPress and import one of the demos. The Brikk demo import loads sample content so you don’t start with a blank site. There are several different demos tailored for different industries.

Step 4. Configure your listing types

Navigate to Listing Types in your WordPress admin. Create new listing types that apply to your business. Next, configure settings for each listing type including booking action, prices, which custom fields to show on submission forms, and review ratings criteria. Customizing listing types helps your form builder and listing layout match the type of business you are running.

Step 5. Setup WooCommerce payments

Navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments and setup your preferred payment gateways. Brikk uses WooCommerce as its booking system, so all payments are processed through WooCommerce. Compatible payment gateways include Stripe, PayPal, and many regional gateways.

Step 6. Tweak site design with Elementor

Customise any page using Elementor. Brikk works with Elementor to provide a live drag and drop website builder. Use Elementor to move Brikk’s custom widgets around or hide elements you don’t need. Full design customisations can be done visually with Brikk and Elementor, no coding knowledge required.

Learn with the Brikk WordPress Theme Documentation

Find everything you need to know about setting up and configuring Brikk inside our theme documentation. Brikk’s documentation guides you through every feature. Want to know how to change currency settings? Need help finding where to configure booking durations? The Brikk docs cover these settings and many more.

Theme documentation can often be difficult to navigate and read. Brikk’s documentation is broken into sections that match the main theme menu Listings, Reservations, Monetise, Users, and Notifications. If you can’t find what you’re looking for using the menu, try using the search box at the top.

Not sure where to start? Check out Brikk’s live preview site. You can visit utillz.com from any computer and explore exactly how Brikk works from the front end. This can help you identify which features you’ll need to set up on your own site.
